Edwin Zwingli
(May 31, 1922 – July 16, 2011)
Edwin “Bud” Zwingli was born May 31, 1922 in Melfort, SK into the family of Ben and Hannah Solberg. Bud was the youngest of 8 children. His brothers and sisters were Martha (born 1907), Olive (1910), Brian (1913), Albert (1915), Helen (1917), Jennie and Jack (twins 1920). Their mother Hannah passed away shortly after Bud was born and it was decided they would not be able to care for him. Emil and Ida Zwingli; the parents of Ernie, Mabel and Lucy Zwingli graciously took him in and adopted him. He was then raised by Lucy Zwingli and Mabel and Bill Paustenbach.
He attended Mount Forest School and helped with the farming and spent a couple of winters in Wisconsin helping Bill Paustenbach with carpentry work. In 1949 Bud married Lorene May Buttery and they settled in the Mount Forest school district. This marriage produced six children; Dwayne (1950), Dianne (1951), Doug (1953), Don (1957), Dennis (1962) and Darlene (1964). Bud and Lorene farmed until 1977 when the farm was sold to Doug and Don and they moved into Melfort. Most of their retirement years were spent with their elaborate flower arrangements and huge gardens.
Bud was predeceased by his parents, all of his brothers and sisters, his wife of 56 years Lorene and his son Dennis. Left to mourn his loss are his children Dwayne & Val (Oberg) and their family Jason, Curtis (Trish) and Tamara; Dianne & Jim (Ward); Doug and Loretta (Strinholm) and their family Benjamin (Lisa) and Aaron (Erin); Don & Debbie (Gunderson) and their family James, Danielle, Gavin and Ashley; Darlene & Phil (Armbruster) and their family Karl and Kevin; as well as six great grandchildren Kaydin, Chay, Phoenix, Robynn, Nichole & Zachary.
