McHARG, Martin
(April 28, 1919 ~ July 27, 2011)
Martin was born at Lenvale on the farm to John and Margaret McHarg. He grew to love and cherish the farm all his life. He took all his schooling at both the old and new Clapton School. He enjoyed all sports, especially hockey, baseball and curling. When asked what he enjoyed most was working on his precious farm. Martin said, if he could live life over again, he would go back to farming.
He helped on the farm until 1941 when he enlisted in the army, but didn't start training until January 1942. He spent four years in the army, most of the time with an Ontario Regiment, the 11th Canadian Army Field Regiment Artillery, which was attached to the 1st Division. For eighteen months, he served in the battle zone of North Africa, Italy, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany.
Upon returning home, he did mixed farming on the home quarter, until he and Beryl moved to Legion Place in 2003. In May, 2011 he moved to Parkland Place and then on July 27, 2011, Martin went home to be with his Lord & Saviour. On October 29, 1948 he married Beryl Rush. They were blessed with three children and have six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Martin is survived by his loving wife Beryl, of 62 years; his children Carla (Loy) Dahlsjo, Keith (Karen) McHarg & Blair (Eva) McHarg; grandchildren Shannon (Darrell) Herbert, Rodney (Kendle) McHarg, Heidi (Theran) Beaulieu, Holly (Benoit) Lelonde, Devon Dahlsjo & Matthew McHarg; great grandchildren Megan Herbert, Moise Lalonde, Pierre Lalonde & Parker Beaulieu; brother David (Edna) McHarg; sisters Violet Codling & Isa Tieken; sisters-in-law Alice McHarg, Barbara McHarg & Edna McHarg.
