Jerome James Chmura
(1960 – 2011)
Jerome passed away on the morning of August 4, 2011 at the Red Deer Hospice, after a courageous five year battle with cancer.
Jerome was born at Melfort, Saskatchewan on October 3, 1960 to Adolf and Jeannette Chmura. He was raised in Star City Saskatchewan but later moved to Melfort. There he spent many years of his young adult life working on the oil rigs and in construction where he developed his keen work ethic. In 1990 he came to Red Deer, Alberta to work for Les George and the Clean Up Doctor. Les was a great mentor to Jerome in business as well as a close friend.
Jerome had an entrepreneurial spirit and struck out on his own with various enterprises in the building industry, including roofing and carpentry. Jerome and his friend Eugene Swichenuik were partners on many of these projects. Jerome later became a developer, building projects in Innisfail and Central Alberta, including his beautiful ranch east of Innisfail. Here he was able to live out his dream as a rancher, and for a time had up to 400 head of cattle.
Jerome was a loving father to his three children; Tyler, Ryan and Shevon and a great friend to all who knew him.
He is survived by his girlfriend Tammy Halko; his mother Jeannette (Lawrence) Jones of Saskatoon; eldest son Tyler (Dasha) of Bangkok, Thailand; his children Ryan and Shevon and their mother Sherry Watson of Red Deer; sister Cecilia Chmura (David Dunn) of Prince Albert, Sask.; brother Christopher Chmura of Red Deer; his two best Amigos Allan (Asa) Groeneveld, Jamie (Jackie) Hamilton and numerous family and friends. Jerome was predeceased by his father Adolf Chmura.
Jerome will be remembered as a loyal and generous friend, with a gregarious nature and a great sense of adventure. He had faith in God and Jesus Christ and this gave him the assurance of eternal life in heaven. His favourite scripture was “Trust God in all you do and lean not on your own understanding” Proverbs 3:5
A celebration of Jerome's life was held at Living Stones church (2020- 40th Ave. Red Deer, Alberta) on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. A private family interment followed. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Red Deer Hospice or to the Alberta Cancer Foundation – Tom Baker Centre, Calgary.
