Gildas “Gil” Marcel Grenier
(May 25, 1926 – August 21, 2011)
It is with much love and sadness that we announce the passing of our father and grandfather Gil Marcel Grenier. Gil passed away in peace and without pain on Sunday, August 21, 2011.
He was born and raised in St. Isidore de Bellevue, SK to Dom Leo and Rebecca Grenier on May 25, 1926. In 1967 Gil married Marie Ange LeBlanc DeMong and had two children. Gil will always be remembered for his sense of humour, devotion to family and his love of farming. His ability to work on anything mechanical saw him owning and operating a service station in Waskesiu for several years in the 50s, as a projectionist at theatres and drive ins in P.A., and as an electrician through the 60s. He also spent time flying aircraft and trying his hand at carpentry and plumbing, finishing his career as a maintenance manager of a local school board.
Gil will be sadly missed by his children, Jacqueline Langlois (Dean Kushneryk), and her children, Steven, Eric and Amanda and their father, Raymond Langlois and Ron (Christine) Grenier and their sons Aiden and Seth; his step children Dan (Carol) DeMong and their children Corbin and Téa; Janet (David) Slater and their children Jennifer (and her children Cadence and Emmitt) and Blair; Brian DeMong and his daughters Breanne and Debrina and Judy DeMong (David Howard) and his sons Taylor (Jamie) and Kyle; his sisters Julie Palin and Marie Therese Grenier; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Tené Grenier, Rose-Anne (Simon) Grenier, Laurel Grenier, Rita (Nap) Courteau, Wilfred (Adeline) LeBlanc, Marcel (Eva) LeBlanc and Florence (Kevin) DeMong; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
Gil was predeceased by his wife Marie Ange Demong Grenier; his parents Dom Leo and Rebecca Grenier; his brothers Aubin Grenier, Joseph Grenier, Ben Grenier, and Maurice Grenier; his sisters Suzanne Colbert and Helen Grenier; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Francis Palin, Muriel Grenier, Leo Colbert, Floyd DeMong, Peter and Simone Courteau and Arsene Rabut.
Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575-28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, 1401-4th Avenue West, Prince Albert, SK. with the celebrant Reverend Father Mathew Nguyen. Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens.
The family is requesting that in lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Lung Association of Saskatchewan, 1231 8th St. East, Saskatoon, SK S7H OS5 or to the Victoria Hospital Foundation, 1200 – 24th St. West, Prince Albert SK S6V 4N9.
