Percy Albert Glister
(May 16, 1917 ~ August 13, 2011)
Percy was the youngest child of Violet and Albert Glister, born May 16, 1917 in Taylorside, Saskatchewan. Percy received Christ as his personal Saviour on March 16, 1941 and was in happy fellowship at Taylorside Gospel Hall. Percy was raised on a farm in the Taylorside District until the passing of his mother at the age of four when he and his father moved to Canastota, New York. They resided there a number of years and eventually moved back to their homestead in Taylorside where Percy worked for various farmers in the area, sometimes walking behind a team of horses for as little as a dollar a day. He also worked on many threshing crews, for George Taylor pitching sheaves and several winters at a logging camp east of Arborfield.
Percy joined the Army Engineering Corps. December 14, 1942 where he served until his honourable discharge on August 18, 1945. He had a dream to have a farm of his own and worked hard to fulfill that dream. Though his farm was small, he managed it well and took pride in everything he did.
In later life he served as a Commissionaire at the Melfort Union Hospital where he delighted in bringing treats to the nursing staff. Percy met and married his sweetheart Lois King on October 12, 1949. To this union four children were born: Grant (Lesley), a baby boy that died at birth, Beverly (Stephen), Allan (Sherrie), 8 grandchildren, and four great grand children.
Percy and Lois were known for their hospitality and many friends and neighbours enjoyed good food and fellowship in their home. They lived and farmed in the Taylorside District until July 1989, when they moved to Melfort, where they resided until failing health caused Percy to move into Parkland Care facility.
Percy was predeceased by his mother Violet, father Albert, infant son, 4 sisters and 4 brothers. He will be greatly missed by his family.
Funeral service was held Saturday, August 20, 2011 from Taylorside Gospel Hall at 2:00 p.m. with Herb Wright and Ron Wright officiating. Interment followed at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Pallbearers were Shane Glister, Nicholas Glister, Thomas Glister, Kristoffer Weir, Joshua Glister, Matthew Weir, Benjiman Glister & Stephenie Andal.
