Albert Edward Carlson
(December 18, 1928 ~ August 13, 2011)
Albert passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the age of 82 years after a short illness.
Albert was born and raised on the family farm in the Kirkton district 3 miles west of Beatty to John and Helen (Nellie) Carlson. He and his four sisters learned to work hard helping their parents with the farm, and went to school at the Kirkton school until grade eight. Albert helped his parents with the farm and worked in bush camps running cat for a few years then took over running the farm for his mother when his father passed away in 1953.
Albert married Audrey Johnson in 1957 and had 6 children Ronald, John, Robert, Shelley, Gordon and Faye. Albert ran the snowplow for the Kirkton district, Beatty Snowplow Club and SaskPower for several years. He enjoyed farming, mechanic work, arc welding, reading and watching television. He also enjoyed visiting with people over a coffee reminiscing about the old days, politics, listening to jokes, discussing the weather or grain prices.
Albert is predeceased by his parents, sisters Margaret Hendrickson and Ruth Meyers, brothers-in-law Ernest Hendrickson, Dick Meyers and Morris Porter, and son Gordon. Albert is survived by his wife Audrey, his children Ron (Christine), John (Alison), Rob, Shelley (Ken) Wenger, Faye (Patrick) Gareau, his sisters Elsie Porter and Hilma Melnychuk, brother-in-law Ken (Mary) Johnson, his grandchildren Steven, Jordon, Dustin, Leah, Amanda (Shawn) Desharnais, Kyle, Adam, his great-grandsons Kaidon, Braxton, Lohan and Jase, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held Thursday, August 18, 2011 from the Chapel of Melfort Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Charles Lees officiating. Pallbearers were Roy Gudelot, Kurt Stenzel, Patrick Gareau, Rob Carlson, Ron Carlson & Dustin Carlson. The eulogist was Faye Gareau. Music ministry was provided by Myrna Lees & Florette Gareau. Interment followed at Beatty Cemetery. Memorial contributions, in memory of Albert, may be directed to Melfort Salvation Army and/or North Central Health Care Foundation Designated to parkland Place.
