Violet Helen Ruszkowski
1938 – 2011
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Violet Helen Ruszkowski (nee Wozniczki) at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, SK on September 5, 2011 with her family by her side.
Violet is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Kazmier; her daughter Debbie (Evan Strueby) and grandson Justin Strueby; her sister Jean Moskwa; her sister Margaret (Orest) Wasutyk; her sister-in-law Helen Placsko and numerous nieces, nephews and five aunts. She was predeceased by her parents John and Phyllis Wozniczki; her father and mother-in-law Ignacy and Anna Ruszkowski; her brothers-in-law Joseph Placsko and Frank Moskwa and her aunts and uncles.
Violet was born on January 4, 1938 at home on her parents’ farm in Fir Ridge, SK. She attended Birson, Cecil and Prince Albert East Central schools. She married Kazmier on November 23, 1957 and began their farm life together near the South Saskatchewan River. Their daughter Debbie was born in December, 1958. Eventually, they moved to the Cecil district and built a new home along Highway 302, where they lived until 1982. They made their final home on Lacroix Crescent in Prince Albert.
Before her retirement,Vi had been employed by the C.B. Department store and Irene Hill, in ladies wear. She had the knack to dress fashionably and look her best whenever she went out. She was a meticulous housekeeper and liked to cook and bake. She would see to it that Kazmier always was sent a delicious hearty lunch for the field. Her gardens were usually very abundant. Her delicious homegrown strawberries with ice cream were always a wonderful treat each Christmas season!
Her favorite passion was growing flowers of amazing varieties. She had the ability to successfully grow flowers that others could not grow in this area. If some did not measure up to her standards, out they went to the farm, either to replant, dispose of or give away. She loved to shop at her favorite stores, if only to return some items later. These social outings kept her in touch with people, for whom she always had a ready smile and a quick chuckle. However, engaging in a spicy debate was something she also enjoyed. Vi faced many medical challenges and pain for several years, but she persevered with undaunted determination at the end.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Roque Concepcion at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 260 – 25th Street East, Prince Albert, SK. Interment will take place in the Garden of Gethsemane at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Saskatchewan Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, 279 – 3rd Avenue N, Saskatoon, SK S7K 2H8.
