John Julius Boden
(February 19, 1917 – September 17, 2011)
John passed away peacefully with his family by his side, at the Victoria Hospital after a short illness.
He is survived by his loving wife June and their children: Darrel (Alice) & their children Mark (Rene) & their children Olivia, Reid, Carter; Denise (Mathew) Koeberlin & their children Tessa, Trey & Taryn; Wesley (Leah); David (Norma) & their children Karen (Jeff Seney) & their children Savannah, Faith & Ian; Cathy (Chris McKay) & their children Ben & Cailyn; Jan (Cory Dolan) & their children Julian & Lilliana; Sharon (Dwayne) Couldwell & their children Kimberly (Reed) Willison & their children Linden & Luke; Kelly (Andrew) MacKenzie & their children Aiden & Owen and Wayne (Pauline) & their children Beauvon (Chris) Thorpe & their children Kaiden, Tayler & Chace; Kandace (Curtis) Kutzan and Daidre (Jared) Braakman.
John was born in the Alingly district, the 2nd last of 9 children. He farmed in the Spruce Home district and worked for the D.N.R. as a forestry plantation supervisor. He met June Kennedy and they were married in 1945.
John was a natural baseball player who enjoyed the sport greatly, playing and coaching numerous teams during his 94 years. A highlight to his career was his induction into the Sask Baseball Hall of Fame in 1983 and the Prince Albert Sports Hall of Fame in 1994. When John was in his 80’s and could no longer play baseball, he turned his interest to golf and became a regular member at the Silver Hills course where he played his final rounds this summer. Other favorite activities included curling, hunting and berry picking.
Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 23, 2011 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Reverend Nora Vedress officiating. Interment will be held at Spruce Home Cemetery. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations may be directed to the Victoria Hospital Foundation-Palliative Care Unit or Mont St. Joseph Foundation.
