Andrew Korczak
(January 26, 1918 – September 21, 2011)
Andrew Korczak passed away at the age of 93 on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at the Herb Bassett Home in Prince Albert.
Andrew was born in Poland on January 26, 1918 and he immigrated to Canada when he was a young boy along with his parents and sister. They settled on the homestead in Henribourg where Andrew and his family farmed for many years.
Andrew married Victoria Kaminski in 1945 and they worked together on the farm and then in their business – Korczak’s Farm Equipment. Mom and dad enjoyed 63 years of marriage until mom’s passing in 2008.
Dad always enjoyed spending time at the farm where he spent many hours “tinkering” or fixing things or driving a tractor which he continued to do until the age of 91. He was able to remain in his own home up until the age of 92 when an unfortunate accident placed him in hospital and then eventually into the Herb Bassett Home.
The family would like to thank Dr. Surkan for the wonderful care he administered to dad over the years. We also want to extend our appreciation to all of dad’s nurses and care aides on the 5th floor at the Victoria Hospital and at the Herb Bassett Home – you were all a special part of dad’s life. He enjoyed the care and attention he received – especially all the late night coffee and stories he would share with his caregivers.
Andrew was predeceased by his parents Walenty and Anna Korczak and his wife Victoria. He is survived by his sister Sophie Yablonski; daughter Anne (Arnold) Mayrand and family; son Albert (Sharon) and children Marlin and Ryan; son Frank (Sandra) and children Lyle (Kari & Tori), Kristi and Jennifer and his extended family Terry McAdam and sons Todd (Christine, Cole & Leyton) and Scott.
A Celebration of dad’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 30, 2011 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Sister Renée Buliard officiating. Interment will be held at South Hill Cemetery. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to Children’s Health and Hospital Foundation, #1 – 345 – 3rd Avenue S, Saskatoon, SK S7K 1M6.
Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, Lorne Adams, Funeral Director.
