James Anthony Welch
(April 3, 1921 – September 24, 2011)
James “Jim” Anthony Welch passed away on September 24, 2011 with his family by his side.
Jim will be sadly missed by his daughters, Sherry (Ron) Ellis of Nanaimo, Sandi (Rick) Lacroix, and Brenda of Calgary; his sons, Jack of Saskatoon, and Jim (Elaine Balych) of Calgary; his grandchildren, Ryan Ellis and Ronnelle Ellis-McFaul; his great granddaughters Brynn and Jamie (Cassandra) Lacroix; his great grandsons Lachlan and Jaxon, Jessie (Mike) How; his great granddaughter Madi; his sisters Ruth, Pat, Betty, and Carole; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Lilly, his sons Joe and Ric; his three brothers, Dick, Tom and Jerry and his sister Marge.
Jim was born April 3, 1921 in Duluth Minnesota. The family immigrated to Canada in 1929. He married Lilly Jensen October 25, 1944. They settled in Prince Albert and raised 7 loved children. In 2001 Jim moved to Saskatoon to enable his son Ric to attend school.
He had a distinguished career with the Provincial Corrections Center for 31 years and received a Governor Generals Award from Jeanne Sauve for Exemplary Service in Corrections. He balanced his life with many other hobbies and interests such as gardening, church, minor league coaching, curling, fishing, and wine making.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 30, 2011 at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 260- 25th Street East, Prince Albert, SK with celebrant Reverend Father Roque Concepcion. Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of other tributes memorial donations can be made to the Parkinsons Foundation of Canada, 4211 Young Street, Suite 316, Toronto, ON M2P 2A9.
