Marjorie Alwena Tutty (nee Price)
(May 27, 1922 – October 3, 2011)
Marjorie Alwena Tutty passed away peacefully at the Rockyview Hospital in Calgary on Monday, October 3, 2011 at the age of 89 years.
Marjorie was born on May 27, 1922 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, studied nursing at the Montreal General Hospital, and married Patrick Leslie Tutty in Prince Albert in 1946. They had three children. Pat was ill with cancer and passed away in 1954. Marge carried on with her nursing to support her young family, and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Alberta in 1960, continuing to work at the Colonel Belcher Hospital teaching orderlies.
In 1965, the family moved to Prince Albert, where Marge commenced her position of Director of Nursing at Victoria Union Hospital. She obtained a Certificate in Hospital Administration from the University of Saskatchewan in 1976. Marge retired in 1987 and relocated to Calgary to be closer to her family.
Marge had a passion for life and everything that she took on. She was a great tennis player, enjoyed golfing, and loved hiking and being out in nature. In her retirement years, she took up watercolour painting and photography, and was active in Calgary’s Kerby Centre, including their hiking group. Marge took the Master Gardener program and created a beautiful garden at her Calgary home. In 2006, a boardroom at the Victoria Union Hospital was dedicated to Marge for her exemplary service as Director of Nursing.
She is survived by her daughter Leslie Tutty (Michael Rothery) and their children Jason Rothery and Evan Rothery (Heather Kolesar) of Calgary, Alberta; her son Robert Tutty (Debbie Tutty) and children Sean and Christopher of Calgary; and her daughter Patricia Tutty (Billy Walker) of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She was predeceased by her parents Robert Evan Price and Lily Violet Price; her husband Patrick Leslie Tutty; and her great-grandson Cedric Kole Rothery.
