Mathilda Sanderson
(August 1, 1924 – October 15, 2011)
Mathilda Louise Sanderson “Tillie” was born August 1, 1924 in Warman, SK to John & Louise Biliske, the sixth of ten children. She developed a strong work ethic early in life growing up on a farm during the 1930’s.
Following high school she attended Saskatoon Normal School to become a teacher. From 1944 – 1947 she taught at one room schools at Weirdale, Percieville and Spry.
While teaching at Percieville she met her soon-to-be husband, George Sanderson. They were married in 1947 and farmed near Pathlow for the next 35 years. Tillie worked hard on the farm, raising her four daughters, tending a large garden and raspberry patch and volunteering in the community.
She was organist for the Pathlow Anglican Church. She served on several committees and canvassed for charities. She enjoyed sewing for her young daughters and the Red Cross. She was recognized by the Canadian Red Cross for fifty years of volunteer service.
Tillie was physically active throughout her life. She loved going for long walks outdoors to enjoy the native trees and flowers. She enjoyed curling and at 83 years was the eldest lady curler at the Melfort Curling Club.
George and Tillie retired to Melfort in 1980. They attended All Saints Anglican Church. She enjoyed singing in the choir, volunteering for church activities and the many friendships she developed.
Tillie loved her grandchildren and spent countless hours making each of them feel special.
Remembering her with love are her four daughters and family: Glenda (Larry) Martin; Everett, Anita (John) Jenkins ; Mathew & Adam, Ivadell (Dave) Holt; Regan (Kelly) Fletcher – (Josh & Amber), Andrea (Jake) Pace – (Alexandra), Carley and Kelsey, Margaret (Wayne) Turgeon; Olivia and Hilary, her siblings Ida Kraushaar, Marg Dyck, Elizabeth Biliske, Wilf (Ivy) Biliske, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
