John (Jack) A. Dey
(April 24, 1922 – November 3, 2011)
Jack was born on April 24, 1922 in Carberry, MB. He passed away on November 3, 2011 at the age of 89 years.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen; sons Wayne (Wendy) of Swift Current, Larry (Pat) of Medicine Hat, AB; grandchildren Cherie Zyloway (Jeff) of Swift Current, Corie Dey of Cabri, Shannon Hurlbut (Derrick) of Drayton Valley, Kevin Dey of Saskatoon, Katelynn Dey of Vancouver; great-grandchildren Tyson & Justine & Gavin Garrett of Cabri, Conner & Madilyn Hurlburt of Drayton Valley and numerous nieces and nephews. Jack was predeceased by his father Alex Dey, mother Rose Dey and sister Margaret Horton.
After receiving his schooling, Jack went to work for the forestry service out of Prince Albert and from there entered the RAF during World War II with the Burma Bombers in the far east. After the service he worked for the CN Railway out of Saskatoon and then made a career with Mobil Oil which he dearly loved, starting in Success and retiring in Swift Current.
Upon retirement Jack and Helen spent numerous years being snowbirds in sunny Mesa. Jack was very involved with his sons sport. He coached them in baseball, hockey and was involved in cubs. Jack loved to golf and looked forward to his morning Mob outings and his card playing. Jack was very involved with the Legion for many years. Jack was also an active member of AA giving numerous speeches and sponsoring those who needed his words of wisdom and entertaining experiences.
