Leonide “Leon” Joseph Durette
(January 8, 1927 – November 11, 2011)
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, pepere, great-pepere and friend on November 11, 2011 in Saskatoon. He passed away peacefully with his loving family at his side.
Leonide is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Evelyne (Beaulac), daughters Clemence (Rene) Lagimodiere of Victoria, BC, Lise Hlady of Saskatoon, SK, Aline (Mitch) Vance of Kelowna, BC, and sons Neil (Gloria) and Leon (Randeen) Durette of Saskatoon, SK and 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Leonide was predeceased by his parents Eugene and Eveline Durette, his mother and father in law Rodolph and Delvina Beaulac, brothers, Marcel and Maurice, sisters, Therese Beaulac and Mariette Reddish, and sister in law Louisa Durette.
Leonide was born on January 8, 1927 in Ormeaux, Sk. He farmed at Ferme St. Eloi, the Durette homestead near Victoire, Sk. until 1967 when the family moved to Prince Albert. Leonide then became a caretaker for the Prince Albert Catholic School System. He retired to Morin Lake where he enjoyed many wonderful years surrounded by family and friends.
Everyone who knew Leonide loved him for his kind and gentle personality. He was a handyman and craftsman who would lend a helping hand to anyone that needed it. He had a beautiful voice and shared it as a soloist at numerous occasions. Leonide was passionately involved with the Church and a well-respected member of the Knights of Columbus for 65 years. The family are eternally grateful for the kindness of the staff at the Luther Special Care Home.
A Prayer Service will be held at Holy Family Parish 110-104th St. W., Saskatoon, SK on Tuesday November 15th at 7:00 pm. Funeral mass will be celebrated at Notre Dame des Victoire Church in Victoire, SK on Wednesday, November 16th at 1:30 pm, interment to follow.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Beau “Lac” Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimers Society of Saskatchewan www.alzheimer.ca/saskatchewan.
