Elizabeth Chomyk
(October 23, 1919 – November 17, 2011)
On November 17, 2011, Luzily (Elizabeth) Chomyk nee Straychuk passed away at age 92 with her son Jim (Joan) at her side.
Elizabeth will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her children Jim (Joan) Chomyk, Ernest (Renata) Chomyk, Marlene (Henry LaVoie), and daughter-in-law, Brenda Hancock. Her memory will also be cherished by her grandchildren Dwayne and Darren Lavoie, Shawn (Sheila Larocque) and Devin Chomyk, Christina, Darek, Erick and Julia (Matt Bergin) Chomyk. Great-grandchildren Cassandra (Casey Selander), Kamera, Bridget, Donovan, Jaya and Zehlee Lavoie were blessed to have spent precious moments with “Little” Grandma. Left to mourn her passing is her brother Mike and wife Josephine Stratychuk, also sisters-in-law Stella Stratychuk, Vera Stratychuk, Annie Kozenko and Tillie Ponamarenko, 11 nieces and 9 nephews and their families, of whom she always spoke highly.
She was predeceased by her husband Peter in 1987; son Donald in 2000; siblings Mary (Mike) Kondysar, George (Annie) Stratychuk, Steve (Ida Sarabin) Stratychuk, Bill (Valerie) Stratychuk, Phillip Stratychuk, Sally (Sam) Karpluk, Steve Kozenko, Paul Ponamarenko, four siblings in their infancy (Lena, Veronica, Paul and John Stratychuk); 2 nephews Allan Stratychuk and Peter Kozenko and one niece Diane Stratychuk.
Elizabeth will always be remembered for her love for animals (having farmed for many years), talents in craft making, crocheting, knitting, reading, carpentry, gardening, sewing her popular patch quilts, fixing anything that broke, making the best perogies and cabbage rolls, and her SMILE. She was a strong-willed, independent and talented woman whose stories taught her children many lessons. She showed her love in different ways and hugs were plentiful for her great-grandchildren. During her retirement years in Prince Albert, she provided childcare to several families in this community.
A celebration of Elizabeth’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Sister Reneé Buliard officiating. Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens.
