Jerry Hoda
(June 17, 1925 – November 26, 2011)
Jerry Hoda, age 86, passed away at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert on Saturday, November 26, 2011, after a brief illness.
Jerry was born June 17, 1925 in Tarnopol, Poland, and emigrated to Canada with his mother in 1929, two years after his father went ahead to establish the family homestead northeast of Meath Park. In Jerry’s working years, he was a truck driver, mechanic, business owner, superintendent at the Pulp Mill and always, a farmer.
After retiring, he enjoyed volunteering time with the Legion, the Exhibition, the Vintage Power Equipment Museum, and especially dancing as he and Sylvia would go to various care homes in and around Prince Albert to get the residents out on the floor to enjoy some old-time music.
Jerry is survived by his long-time partner, Sylvia Kachaluba, four children Marianne (Bernie) Kramchynsky, Colleen (Bert) Lavoie, Cherey (John) Sarchuk and Terry (Bev) Hoda; eight grandchildren Roberta Kramchynsky, Kate (Dave) Hardie, Marc (Leanne) Lavoie, Krystal (Justin) Jereda, Janet Hoda (Aaron Korchinski), Brad (Kim) Hoda, Brennan (Vijay) Hoda, and Brandy Hoda (Stacey Broom), seven great-grandchildren, Addison, Ethan, Nathaniel, Isaiah, Luca, Ramona, and Nolan; brother Ed (Mary) Hoda and sister Amelia (Arnold) Moore. He was predeceased by his parents Tony and Jane Hoda, his brother Peter, and former wife, Eileen.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 2 from River Park Memorial Chapel. Rick Martin will officiate. Interment will take place in the Garden of the Last Supper, Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
