Robert Morrison Sims
(April 13, 1970 – December 13, 2011)
The family of Robert “Robb” Morrison Sims sadly announces his passing after a long battle with cancer on the morning of Tuesday, December 13th, 2011 in Osaka, Japan.
Robb was born on April 13th, 1970 in Kenora, Ontario. He was adopted by Dave and Sandra Sims and subsequently raised in The Pas, Churchill and Prince Albert with his brother Davy. Growing up Robb was heavily involved in many sports including racquetball, volleyball, basketball and skiing. He also was an active member of RCSCC Rawalpindi Sea Cadets and a leading member of the corps’ sailing team. In later years he was heavily involved with the University of Saskatchewan’s volleyball program.
He graduated with a degree in physical education and headed over to Japan to begin teaching English in 1994. During that time he attained a black belt in the sport of Aikido, took up the lifestyle of motorcycle riding and developed a thorough knowledge of Japanese cuisine. He also met Akane “Alice” Shimiz, his girlfriend of the last two years who faithfully stood by him through his illness. The family is grateful to her for her support in Robb’s time of need and for hosting the family so graciously in Japan. The family is also grateful for the exemplary care Robb received while in the palliative care unit of Osaka City General Hospital. He was a wonderful brother, relative and friend and will be deeply missed.
Two services are being held; a vigil in Japan – put on through Robb’s evangelical church where he will be cremated and a service in Prince Albert sometime next year when the weather warms up and family members from out-of-province can attend. Robb is predeceased by his parents Dave and Sandra. He is survived by his brother Davy and his family, girlfriend Alice and numerous other cousins, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews.
