Maisie Muriel Tweedie (nee Leask)
(January 28, 1918 – December 28, 2011)
Mom was born at Fenton, SK on January 28, 1918, the first of five children born to Bert and Elsie (Adams) Leask. Mom loved to play ball, and played for the Fenton Falcons Ladies softball team. She spent most of her life in the Fenton area with the exception of the 4 years she was in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Mom spent time overseas during the war and her most memorable event was V. E. Day. She loved to reminisce about her Air Force days, and told us several stories about wartime life.
Mom and Dad were married on October 25, 1947 and continued to farm the Tweedie family farm. Mom always had a big garden, milked cows, and was the truck driver at harvest time. She was a skilled seamstress, sewing both Brenda and Twyla’s wedding and bridesmaid dresses. Mom made several quilts that held many memories, where Brenda and Twyla could pick out the patches from previous homemade clothes Mom had made for them. Mom loved to knit, and made several siwash sweaters, along with dozens of pairs of mitts and scarves over the years.
Mom was very proud of all her grandchildren, attending ball games, hockey games, dance and music recitals, graduations, convocations and weddings. Each time one of the grandchildren told Mom of an expecting pregnancy, she would wish for a little girl, and she got her wish – 7 beautiful great granddaughters, the apple of Mom’s eye.
Mom is survived by her daughters Brenda (Lyall) McDougall, their 3 children Tyler; Traci (Tom) LaRose and their daughters Piper & Ryann; Ashley (Adam) Bueckert, Twyla (Kevin) Acorn, their 4 children Brandon (Colleen) and their daughters Kaelyn, Marinn & Camryn; Brock (Amy); Brittany (Ryan) Baillargeon and their daughters Molly & Maci; Breanne; her sister Lena Bailey and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Jim (1987); her parents Bert (1971) and Elsie (1985); her sisters Norma (1999) and Beulah (2009); her brother Jim (1949); as well as members of the Tweedie family.
A Celebration of Maisie’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Reverend Shane Acorn and Murray Acorn officiating.
