Daisy “Mae” Fraser
(January 13, 1916 – December 25, 2011)
Mae was born to Jim and Millie Spratt on January 13th, 1916 in the Sprattsville district west of Girvin, SK. She was the fourth of five children. Mae grew up with a love of the outdoors and animals and preferred bringing the cattle in with her horse to being stuck in the house. During the 30’s her family moved to a farm in the Star City area. Mae married Don Fraser on April 7th, 1938. They had a laughter, Gwen. Melfort became their home in 1947. Mae worked at Smith Hatcheries from the early fifties until her retirement. Friends and family were always welcome in her home. During her retirement years she had more time to enjoy her grandchildren and gardening. Don passed away in 1985. In 1999, she moved to Parkland Care Centre. She passed away there on December 25, 2011.
Mae was predeceased by husband Don (1985); mother Millie Spratt (1976), father James Spratt (1978), brothers Harold (1997), Teddy (1927), sister Violet Smith (1993); brothers-in-law Ronald Castle and Ted Smith and sister-in-law Florence Spratt, nephew Jim Castle as well as all of Don’s siblings and their spouses. She will be missed by daughter Gwen (Phil) Thompson; grandchildren Robert (Jennifer); Mark (fiancée, Kari); Heather; Carolyn (Collyn) Sieben; Glen; and great-grandsons Trey, Shane and Nathan; sister Ruth (Arnold) Dubray, and nephews Tim Castle, Ed Smith, David Smith and their families.
The Funeral Service for Mae was held from the Melfort Evangelical Covenant Church on Friday, December 30, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Gary Gilkinson officiating. A Family interment took place prior to the service at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert Thompson, Mark Thompson, Glen Thompson, Collyn Sieben, Tim Castle, and Doug Arbogast. The eulogy was delivered by Ed Smith. The ushers were Dale Gordon and Gord Manz, the organist was Rose Arbogast and the soloist was Jodine Arndt.
