John Arthur Stanley Cook
Cook, John – John went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Feb. 24, 2012. He was 90 years of age. He was born on the family farm at Birch Hills, Oct. 18, 1921, and remained there till Oct. 2007 when he moved to Melfort with his wife Kathleen. On July 23, 1948, he married the love of his life Kathleen Archibald. From this union, Murray was born in 1950, Patricia in 1952 and Charles in 1957. He was taught at an early age that people owe a responsibility to the community for the freedoms and privileges we enjoy. John served with the RCAF during WW2. He served on numerous boards and committees – only a few being school board trustee for 32 years. Birch Hills Flying Club executive for 30 years and Saskatchewan & International Flying Farmers. He was the first president of the Prince Albert District Home Care Board and the Birch Hills Historical Society and spent 65 years with the Royal Canadian Legion – Birch Hills branch. John will be lovingly remembered by his wife Kathleen, son Murray ( Holly nee Ueland), sister Lenore Marvin, grandchildren- Thomas, Douglas, Jamie and Meagen and 4 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Iris Cook, Effie Cook, Lavina Baldwin, Ruth Braaten and Beth (Jim) Larocque, brothers-in-law Ernie (Myrtle) Archibald, Cameron (Florence) Archibald and step-brother Max (Florrence) Edwards. He is pre-deceased by children Patsy & Charlie, parents Tom & Louise and step-mother Nellie, brothers Ed & Dan, brothers-in-law Sid Marvin, Bob Baldwin & Louis Braaten and nephew Robert Cook. The funeral service will take place on Sat. March 3, 2012 at the Lutheran Church, Birch Hills at 2:00 pm. Friends so wishing may make memorial donations to the charity of one’s choice.
