Phyllis Clarice Nelson
NELSON, Phyllis Clarice – Beloved great-grandmother, mother and wife, passed away on Monday, April 2, 2012 at the age of 77 years. Phyllis was born in Fort a la Corne, Saskatchewan on April 10, 1934 to Henry and Alma Hendrickson. She took her schooling at Fort a la Corne School until grade ten when she began working at the Creamery and at the Melfort Hospital in the kitchen. She married Edmund Nelson on August 27, 1954 in Melfort. In 1957, they moved to the Nelson homestead where she lived her entire life. She was a dedicated farmer's wife, and also worked at Richardson's Department Store, and at Parkland in housekeeping. Phyllis and Edmund had one daughter, Michele Clarice, born in 1962. Phyllis was blessed with three grandchildren – Angela, Jennifer and Corey. They were the greatest highlight of her life. Sharing in their lives brought her pride and joy. A great-grandson, Levi, was born in 2011. She loved her family deeply, and always slept better when she knew they were safe and sound. Phyllis was a member of the Carrot River Valley Lutheran Church, and was confirmed in 1963. She knew the Lord was her Saviour. She was active in the Ladies Aid, and as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher. She never failed to say her prayers each night – always for other people and to give thanks for the many blessings in her life. She loved watching her birds, gardening and canning, Christmas Eve with her grandkids, Charley Pride music, The Price is Right , and having a cup of coffee. Phyllis was predeceased by her parents; her father-in-law and mother-in-law Gust and Mabel Nelson; sisters and brothers-in-law Evelyn (Pete) Reimer, Sylvia (Andy) Jensen, Dora (Alec) Richardson, Ella Sabine; brothers John, Axel and George Hendrickson; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Martha (Andrew) Anderson, Gilbert Nelson, Manfred (Jean) Nelson, Don Kellington and Curt Bailey. She is also predeceased by two infant sons, Kimberly and Michael. Phyllis is survived by her husband of 57 years, Edmund, daughter Michele Nelson, grandchildren Angela (Grant) Bethune, Jennifer Hill, Corey Hill and great-grandson Levi Bethune. She also leaves to mourn her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Reg Sabine, Sylvia Nelson, Fingal (Elaine) Nelson, Elaine (Bill) Holmstrom, Sylvia Kellington and June Bailey, as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. We miss her immensely.
