Roger Keating Worth

Roger Keating Worth passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 4, 2012 at St. Paul's Hospital, Saskatoon. Roger resided in Prince Albert, having formerly lived in Moncton, New Brunswick, Cranbrook, British Columbia and Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Roger is survived by his children Susan (Roger) Dusseault and their children Madison and Ethan as well as his son Kent (Deanna) and their daughter Mikayla; one brother Wayne Worth of New Westminster, British Columbia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Roger was born November 14, 1931 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island to Charles and Reta (Keating) Worth. He had four siblings Roma, Marilyn, George and Wayne. At 13, Roger left home and moved to Toronto to make his way in life. He worked at many odd jobs before joining the Royal Canadian Air Force on September 3, 1952. He became a Leading Aircraftsman and served with the 419 Squadron stationed in North Bay, Ontario, Rivers, Manitoba and Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. He was honorably released September 2, 1957.
Roger then moved back to Prince Edward Island where he started his newspaper career with the Guardian-Patriot newspapers. It was during this time he met the love of his life Arlene Gladys Bernard. They were married December 26, 1961 and were blessed with a son Kent in 1962 and daughter Susan in 1967. Roger and Arlene enjoyed almost 48 years together, until Arlene’s sudden passing July 8, 2010.
His 35 year newspaper career literally took him across Canada, having worked at the Charlottetown (Guardian Patriot), Moncton Daily Times and Transcript, Saskatoon Star Phoenix, Cranbrook Daily Townsmen and Kimberley Bulletin newspapers. He took great pride in being an influence with the many children who delivered papers for him. Many have gone on to become political, business and sports leaders.
He was a devoted and caring husband, and a supportive and loving father and grandfather. In his final months, nothing gave him greater joy than spending time with his family. Roger was well known as a constant kidder. Nobody was exempt from his unusual wit as all the hospital staff can attest to. He retained his positive attitude and sense of humour until the end, and was known for bringing a smile to everyone’s face.
The family thanks the numerous Doctors, nurses and staff at Victoria Union, Royal University and St. Paul’s Hospitals that cared for him with dignity, compassion and understanding these final months.
Roger’s final request was to have a simple graveside service with family and friends at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Prince Albert where he will rest with his wife Arlene.
