McGUNIGAL: Marie McGunigal
March 6, 1922 – June 3, 2012
Marie McGunigal, formerly of LaRonge, passed away suddenly in St. Walburg at the age of 90 years.
Marie Sophie McGunigal was born on March 6, 1922, to Oliver and Marie Labossiere at Wakaw, SK. She grew up on the homestead near Tway, completing school at Bonne Madone and Crystal View Schools. She then moved to P.A. working during the day and attending business school in the evening.
In 1946, Marie married John (Jack) McGunigal, who was employed by the Department of Natural Resources. They lived in remote northern locations including Montreal Lake, Anglin Lake, English Cabin, and Divide Cabin (Meadow Lake). In 1953, the family moved to LaRonge so the children could attend school. This is where Marie resided until moving to Paradise Hill Personal Care Home in 2009.
Marie was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker. In 1967, she was contracted to manage the STC Bus Depot and Freight Shed. This was followed by employment at the Tourist Information Bureau and LaRonge Housing Authority. She was very active in the Royal Canadian Legion.
She is predeceased by: her husband, John (Jack); her son, Daryl; and her parents, Oliver and Marie.
Marie is survived by: her daughters, Marlene (Rick), Lillian (Maurice), Sharon (Susan), Shirley, Coral (Paul), Bonnie (Brad) and Juanita (Doug); her nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; her brothers-in-law, Bill (Doreen) and Cecil (Linda); and her sister-in-law, Jean.
A Memorial Service will be held at the LaRonge Legion Hall on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Lunch and fellowship will follow the service. Inurnment will be in the LaRonge Cemetery. Memorial Donations in memory of Marie may be made to the LaRonge Royal Canadian Legion Branch 371.
