1933 – 2012
With a feeling of deep sorrow, the family of Gethyn MacLeod said good-bye to their loved one on June 27, 2012 after fighting a challenging battle with cancer. Gethyn was born on Sept. 3, 1933, the 5th child of the late John and Elizabeth MacLeod. He married Dawn Kooy on Dec. 4, 1965. Together they farmed in the Steep Creek Community. Farming was one of Gethyn's greatest joys, with fishing and hunting not far behind. Gethyn will be lovingly remembered by his wife Dawn; children Heather (Brian) DaSilva, Barbara (Curtis) Burks, Marlene (Scott) Dehm and John (Erin) MacLeod; grandchildren Marina, Gabrielle and Nathan DaSilva, Emma, Owen and Adam Dehm; siblings Cicely Hunter, Betty Simpson, Donald (Ethel) MacLeod, Ewen MacLeod, Alastair MacLeod, Shonnie (Ralph) Loeffler and Honora Pequin; in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. Gethyn was predeceased by his parents John & Elizabeth (Plaxton) MacLeod; father-in-law Cornelius Kooy; mother-in-law Ione (Simpso) Kooy; sister Christina Martz; brother Amoss MacLeod; brothers-in-law Nick Martz, Ron Pequin, William Simpson and Gordon Hunter as well as beloved nephews, aunts, uncles & cousins. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 2, 2012 at Gray's Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Reverend Daniel Graham officiating. Interment will be held at Steep Creek Cemetery. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Victoria Hospital Foundation – Palliative Care Unit, 1200 – 24th Street West, Prince Albert, SK S6V 5T4 or the Steep Creek Cemetery Fund.
