Dad was born on the homestead near Pilger, SK on July 24, 1928, where he grew up and went to school. From there he went to Ontario to work in a nickel mine. Upon returning to Pilger he began his 39 year career with the Department of Highways. This took him on an adventure throughout the province where he met Mom and got married in 1954. From there they continued together with Highways. He will be remembered most notably for his involvement in the construction of Highway 2 North to La Ronge and placement of the Churchill River Bridge at Otter Rapids. Dad spent a lot of time flying around the north, Stony Rapids, Wollaston Lake, Missinipi and La Ronge overseeing road construction. He also took part in building many Saskatchewan highways. During this time Dad and Mom were very involved in raising their three girls. Dad also enjoyed golfing, curling, shuffleboard and being involved with the Army and Navy and the Winter Festival. He was always ready to have a beer or two with friends “anytime”. Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10 from St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church by Father Maurice Fiolleau. Interment will take place at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. It is the family’s request that donations may be made to the Victoria Hospital Palliative Care Unit in memory of Ben.
