Paul Wayne Lorenz
1952 – 2012

On Friday, July 20, 2012 at 2:47 am as we said good-bye to the first man we ever loved, our sister said hello…
Our Dad, Paul Wayne Lorenz leaves to remember him, his wife, Laura; his children/stepchildren, Maria-Lynn (Tylor) Callaghan, Danielle (Garry) Fiddler, Pauline (Josh Hotte) Lorenz, Eric Ross, Melissa Ross, Michelle Ross and Courtney Ballantyne; his grandchildren, Michael, Jonathan, Nykolys, Kevin, Tiler, Natalie, Liam, Lance, Jesse and Julie-Ann; his siblings, Ed (Diane) Samson, Doris Staflund, Greg (Monica) Yeats, Sandra (Keith) Kanak, Tina (Bruce Piepgrass) Hayne and many foster siblings that stayed with Grandma and Grandpa over the years; his in-laws, Wally Waschuk, Willie Ross, Wilfred Ross, Frank Ross, Jean (Rod) Stewart, Lizzie Ross, Janet Ross, Kathy Ross (David Lavallee), Nancy (Garry) Umpherville and Joyce Ross (Billy Cook); the mother of his children, Aline Lorenz; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends and his best friend and confidante, Wilbur Puppy. He was predeceased by his daughter, Natalie Lorenz; his parents, Wilfrid and Claire (nee Vien) Samson; his sister, Irene Waschuk; his brother-in-law, Al Staflund and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, John D. and Maryann Ross.
Dad was born at the Holy Family Hospital in Prince Albert, SK on February 28, 1952. From there he went to stay in various foster homes for the first few months of his life until he found his “forever” family with Wilfrid and Claire Samson. Dad was mischievous and always up for a prank. If he got a twinkle in his eye we knew we were in trouble and that he was up to no good. He loved telling jokes. Sometimes he would laugh so hard he would cry, making us laugh even harder. Dad loved life. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and travelling. He played drums like a pro. He could play wipeout and let there be drums with no effort at all. He sang, Dad had the voice of an angel. Dad danced, he could jig all night in his prime, and would dance until past closing time when he could. He drove tour bus
for many years and got to see North America from coast to coast. He also drove truck across all North America, and in the last few years, he travelled across Western Canada with Laura. He fought this illness with poise and dignity, never really complaining about the pain he was in. He almost always put everyone else first, unless he was forced to put himself at the top of his list. That usually only happened when he'd get sick and wind up at the Vic, where “everyone knew his name.” We used to tease him that they were going to charge him rent. We will miss his deep blue eyes, his infectious laugh, his random texts and e-mails…

Breathe Easy Daddy, Until We Meet Again… Roll on…

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff at the Victoria Hospital for all of their care and support in these last few months, the Home Care staff that made the weekly house-calls, Provincial Home Oxygen Inc, Gray's Funeral Chapel for helping us with the final arrangements, to our family and friends for all of your support and a special Thank you to Jack Long for his knowledge and support in this difficult time.

Today's the day we say goodbye
We hear you saying not cry
Gone so suddenly
Gone too soon
But resting peacefully
And breathing easily
We'll miss you deeply

Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 27, 2012 at Gray's Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Celebrant Rosella Carney. Interment will be held at Leoville Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, Marianne Turcotte, Funeral Director.
