Bella Cherny

Bella Cherny (nee Panchuk) passed away from this life in Pineview Lodge, Nipawin, SK, at the age of 94 years 4 months on July 25, 2012.
Bella was born on the family farm near Gronlid, SK April 8, 1918, to Dymytro and Elena (Korol) Panchuk.
She will be greatly missed and dearly remembered by her daughter, Zenovia (Herman) Syroishka, grandchildren, Donna (Jason Ough), Don (Sylvia Pendl) and Allan (Nicki Woolley) and their sons Ben, Mark and Will; son, Bernard (Tania), grandchildren Ryan (Jasmine Hughes) and Tracy. She is survived by her sisters Mary Sturby and Agnes Sturby, sister-in-law Pauline Panchuk and brother-in-law Andry Zuchok, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and godchildren.
Bella was predeceased by her parents, Dymytro and Elena (nee Korol), brother Eli Panchuk, sister Olga Zuchok, sister-in-law Jenny Panchuk, brothers-in-law John Sturby and Orville Sturby. She was also predeceased by her husband’s family, parents Trochin and Maria (nee Vitushinsky), sister Steffania Kopach, brothers Michael and Alex in Ukraine.
Bella married Bill August 1st, 1935. Together, as partners, they farmed in the Gronlid area until their retirement in 1976. At that time they moved to Melfort where they lived until 1998 when Bill’s failing health forced him to enter a nursing home. Bella then moved to Nipawin to be near Bill and assist in his care. After his passing in 2002 Bella continued to live in Nipawin and Carrot River until her failing health forced her to enter Pineview Lodge in November, 2011.
Bella and Bill were members of St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Gronlid. Following their retirement, they joined the All Saints Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Melfort.
Family and friends will fondly remember Bella’s great cooking and hospitality. Her warm personality garnered her many friends. Bella will be greatly missed by her family, many godchildren and many friends and acquaintances. Rest In Peace ~ Vichnaya Pamyat
