Leo Wilfred Begon, age 94 years of Christopher Lake, passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2012 with his family at his side. Leo was predeceased by his wife Mary Ellen (Tate) Begon, his parents Mary (St. George) and Peter Begon, his brothers and sisters Gordon, Lyle, Robert, Fabian, Loretta and Lorraine. He is survived by his son James Sandford Begon (Shirley Barbara); his grandchildren Jamie Leo Begon, Jared Peter Begon, Jaycelyn Mary Begon; his great-grandchildren James, Jasmine, and Janelle; His brother Sandford Begon as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends that he would visit with. Leo was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta on March 11, 1918. He lived in various places in Alberta and Saskatchewan as a child and settled in the Christopher Lake area. He grew up north of Christopher Lake and later moved to Christopher Lake. Leo served in the army in the 2nd World War. He returned from the war and met Mary and they were married on July 17, 1948 and had one son James. Leo was a truck driver and school bus driver. He drove the bus to Christopher Lake School at first. He later brought kids from the Lakeland area to Prince Albert schools and many of these students would stop and visit him long after he retired. Leo and Mary had a beautiful garden that was admired by everyone. People from all over would stop to ask for their poppy seeds. Leo drove his wife for years to watch hockey games and ringette games. His grandkids and great-grandson could always count on them being in the stands. Leo was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 16 from River Park Memorial Chapel, 301 River Street West. Reverend Tony Thompson will officiate. Interment will take place in the Garden of the Last Supper, Prince Albert Memorial Gardens.
