Kathleen Dawn Steedsman, daughter of Wellesley and Kathleen Patterson, was born March 25, 1924, at Delia, Alberta. At the age of six, she and her family settled on the homestead south of Smeaton.
She took her schooling at Inland and completed high school in Smeaton. In 1941, Dawn gained employment at the local W.M.S. Hospital. It was at this time she met the love of her life, Norman. They were married August 19, 1943 at Grace United Church in Prince Albert, and settled into busy farm life and raising a family.
In 1956, Dawn began working at the new Smeaton Hospital as a Nurse’s Aide and after obtaining certification as a Lab & Xray Technician, remained in this position until her retirement in 1989. Many lasting friendships were developed and cherished.
Reading and gardening were her passions. She took pride in growing gladiolas, lilies and roses. Many times floral arrangements graced her table. Dawn’s favorite TV programs included the sports of curling and baseball and she could not miss her soaps. Blueberry picking excursions with friends were much enjoyed. Dawn also loved her cat (Kitty Puss) and dogs (Lucy and Echo), with whom she spent many companionable hours. She was very appreciative of Terry Chamberlain and Sue Pelech for walking and caring for Echo when she was no longer able to do so herself.
When able, Dawn attended the United Church at Smeaton and Choiceland. Worships at the Hi-Way Fellowship Church and at North Haven were special to her.
Community life was important to Dawn. She became involved with the School Board, the Board of Trade and the United Church Women (U.C.W.).
She loved being surrounded her family and treasured the times when they were all together.
Dawn was predeceased by her beloved husband, Norman; and infant daughter, Kathleen May; her father and mother, Wellesley and Kathleen Patterson; her sister, Fern Larson and step-brothers, John (Jack) and Bill Patterson.
She leaves to treasure her memory her son, Vernon Steedsman, of Kindersley; three daughters: Sharon (Edward) Bruvold of Melfort; Wilma (Bill) Moore of Cold Lake, AB, and Wenda (Ray) Schiller of Markham, ON; four grandchildren: Roxanne (Darvin) Kowaniuk and Rhonda Bruvold of Prince Albert; Stephen (Kristen) Moore of Edmonton, AB; Robert Moore of Seattle, Washington; three great grandchildren: Shae-Lynn and Kyle Kowaniuk of Prince Albert and Jessica Moore, of Edmonton, AB; one brother Vernon Dale Beverly (Jeannine) Patterson of Westbank, BC; as well as numerous nieces and nephew and all her many friends.
The family placed their trust with Coventry Funeral Services of Nipawin 862-4233.
