Borghild Andvaag (nee Borsheim) was born at Sele, near Sandnes, Norway on April 26, 1915. She passed away in Prince Albert, at Victoria hospital, on November 17, 2012. Borghild was three when her mother died. At this time she went to live with her grandparents for a few years. When her father remarried, she and her sister Selma were joined to the new family that eventually grew to include five brothers and another sister. The family lived on a farm in Norway but America was always on her father’s mind as he had spent some of his younger years in Seattle and fishing in Alaska. The year was 1929 and because of the Depression, immigration was closed to the U.S.A. They turned their sights on Canada, settling in the Lake Park district, North of Birch Hills. After her school years, Borghild did domestic work at numerous farms in the area. It was at one of these farms in the Hagen district that she met her husband, Augustin. They were married in November 1936 and farmed near Hagen. In the next four years they were blessed with a daughter, Sonja and a son, Arvid. In 1941 the farm was rented out and the family moved to New Westminster, BC for 6 years before once again returning to the farm. Borghild and Augustin retired to Prince Albert in 1965 and lived in their own house, later moving to an apartment. After Augustin’s passing she continued to live in the apartment until a hip fracture forced her to take up residence in a care home in St. Louis. Her last residence has been at the care home in Bellevue, SK which she greatly enjoyed as she received such loving care and wonderful food. Borghild is lovingly remembered by her daughter Sonja (Einar) Rinholm and son Arvid (Carol, nee Coffey) Andvaag, six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren, a sister Helen Miller, her brothers Randolf Borsheim, Roy (Lillian) Borsheim and Barney (Jean) Borsheim. Borghild was predeceased by her husband Augustin, her mother Selma (nee Raugstad) Borsheim, father Reinert Borsheim, stepmother Henrikka (nee Birkland) Borsheim, brothers, Rud Borsheim and Margus Borsheim, sister Selma Borsheim, brother-in-law Lorne Miller, sisters-in-law Jennie Borsheim and Signe Borsheim, and infant great grandson Thomas Cheriyan. Until the last week of her life she spent many hours every day knitting and crocheting, always doing perfect work. Borghild loved visiting with people. She was proud of both her Norwegian heritage and her family’s accomplishments. We are thankful for the legacy of faith she has left within her family. Rest peacefully in your heavenly home, Mom. For those so wishing, memorials may be given to Saron Lutheran Church memorial fund, Box 97, Hagen, SK S0J 1B0 or the Bellevue care home, Box 27, Bellevue, SK S0K 3Y0.
