Hertzberg, Gustave Herbert “Bert”
1916 – 2012
On November 24, 2012, Bert Hertzberg of Prince Albert passed away at Pineview Terrace at the age of 96. He lived at Pineview Terrace for 4 ½ years where he enjoyed his stay with staff and friends. Bert was born in the Silver Grove District, near Leask, SK on April 7, 1916, the eldest son of Gus and Ida Hertzberg. Bert farmed with his brother Gordon and their father before retiring to Prince Albert in 1978. He had a passion for auction sales. Bert especially enjoyed spending time at Gobeil Auctions where he both acquired treasures and made lasting friendships. He had very special neighbors and developed strong relationships with them. Anytime they stopped by for a visit, the tea kettle was on and out popped cakes and cookies. Bert spent his retirement years gardening, picking berries. He often ventured out to Shellbrook, Leask, Rosthern and Duck Lake to visit and to keep up with these local towns he had grown to love. He loved sports. He loved to watch softball at Prime Minister's Park and attended sports days in the neighboring communities. He was also an avid hockey fan and held Raider season tickets since the days of Terry Simpson. He rarely missed a game. Although Bert never had children, he enjoyed traveling to the local rinks and ball fields to watch his nephews play hockey and ball. He was very proud of their accomplishments. Bert took his first plane ride at the age of 75 to Anchorage, AK to visit his family. Bert is survived and will be dearly missed by his sister Norma Federenko; his niece Lynn Junker (Bruce) Troy and Jocelyne; his nephews Lyle Federenko (Melanie) Ryan and Scott of Prince Albert, Garvin Federenko (Alice) Kailyn and Whitney, Glenn Federenko of Anchorage, AK and Brad Federenko of Jacksonville, FL. Bert was predeceased by his father and mother Gus and Ida (Kennedy) Hertzberg; his brother: Gordon Hertzberg and his brother-in-law Edward Federenko. Bert was a generous and honourable man who will be deeply missed by his family and friends alike. At the request of Bert, no funeral service will be held. A Private Family Interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to The Pineview Terrace Family Auxillary, 701 – 13th Street West, Prince Albert, SK S6V 3H2, Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca.
