Our family is saddened by the unexpected passing of our brother, Eugene “Gene” Bodnarchuk, born April 9, 1947 in Saskatoon, SK, passed away in Calgary on December 19, 2012. Gene grew up on the family farm, west of Wakaw, attending school at Sniatyn and Alvena. After leaving school, Gene worked in Saskatoon and then in Calgary where he established his own business – “Western Fresh Air Fireplaces”. Gene enjoyed his cars, motorcycles, boating, camping and cooking on his smokers and barbeques. He loved spending time with family and was always ready for a good game of “Kaiser”! Gene was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Peter Bodnarchuk; sister, Maria (in Ukraine); brother, Michael; sister, Rose; brother-in-law, Merv Maskewich; and nephew, Ward Maskewich. He is remembered by his sisters, Nancy and Audrey (Clifton) Johnson; brother, John (Marj); brother-in-law, Jerry Hatala; friends, Carol Streeton, Edeme Rodriguez; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Prayer Service will be held December 27, 2012 at 7 PM at Park Funeral Chapel, 311 Third Avenue North, Saskatoon. The Funeral will be held December 28, 2012 at 10 AM at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of St. Mary the Protectress, St. Julien, Saskatchewan with Very Rev. Fr. Roman Kocur officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Julien Orthodox Cemetery.
