Peggy Green (née Halsey), longtime resident of Prince Albert, died peacefully at the age of 89 on January 24, 2013, at Sherwood Park, Alberta. Her life is lovingly celebrated by her 7 children, 16 grandchildren, 2 (almost 3!) great grandchildren, a large extended family and many friends.
Devoted wife of Dr. R. Glen Green (2010) for 63 years, Peggy was also a beloved daughter, sister, mother, sister-in law, aunt and loyal friend.
Peggy’s life was exemplified by her service to others. She was a longtime and faithful member of St. Alban’s Cathedral and the Robertas, the Regent of IODE, and a recipient of Rotary’s Paul Harris Fellow for her exceptional commitment to her community.
Roles Peggy passionately embraced included: tireless volunteer, dedicated organizer, political campaigner, Rawlinson Arts Centre ambassador, registered nurse, gardener, photographer, bridge and tennis player. Appreciator of fashion and collector of art. Baker of cakes, cookies, deep dish fruit pies and dainties. Maker of jam, jellies, preserver of pickles, fruits and vegetables.
Peggy was widely regarded as the “hostess with the mostest” of many memorable events: Christmas Eve parties, fish fries at Waskesiu in the camp kitchen, graduations, teas, weddings, meetings, Easter celebrations, Thanksgiving feasts, innumerable birthdays, baptisms, confirmations, and funerals. Hurray for a long life well lived!
Peggy will be deeply missed by her children and their families: Margot Hornseth (Joe Sporta) of Orangeville, Ontario, Susan Green (Stewart Roth) of Edmonton, Janet-Laine Green (Booth Savage) of Tottenham, Ontario, Wendy Finlay of Toronto, PL Bastian (James) of Regina; John Green (Karren) of Saskatoon and Dawn Green (Gary Shelton) of Sherwood Park, Alberta.
A service celebrating Peggy’s life will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, February 8, 2013 at St. Alban’s Cathedral, 1410 Bishop McLean Crescent, Prince Albert, SK, S6V 4Z2. Those who wish may consider making a donation in memory of Peggy Green to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan, 301-2550 12 Avenue, Regina, SK, S4P 3X1 or St. Alban’s Cathedral in Prince Albert.
