Shirley Gibson

February 9, 2013, Shirley Ruth Gibson (nee Blakeney) ended her courageous battle with cancer at her home in Abbotsford BC, with her daughters and family by her side.
Shirley was born in Prince Albert, SK on February 18, 1941. Shirley had a great sense of adventure which took her north to Uranium City, SK after obtaining her nursing degree. Her family and career took her to Lanigan, SK and finally to the Fraser Valley, BC in 1984 where she worked until retirement. Shirley’s sense of humor and strength made an impression everywhere she went. She was a wonderful writer. Her letters, musings and words of wisdom will be cherished by many.
Shirley is lovingly remembered and survived by her daughters, Selena Langan (Ken Ojala), and Allison Gibson-Proctor (Chris); grandchildren, Ethan and Octavia Langan; her siblings, Raymond Blakeney (Hope), Bernice Dick (Jesse Hanson), Joan (Robin) Connauton, L. Dianne Badger, Phyllis Domashovitz, Lorna Blakeney and Debbie Blakeney; long time friend and confidante, Lyall Downey; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. Shirley was predeceased by her parents Walter and Ella Blakeney.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 18, 2013 at 11:00 am at Henderson’s Funeral Home, 34537 Marshall Road, Abbotsford, BC.
