1938 – 2013
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Stewart (Bud) Robinson. Gordon was born on April 5, 1938 in Shellbrook, SK. to Cora Matilda and George Stewart Robinson. He attended Shellbrook School. Later after he was done with school Gordon worked for Sasktel and also worked for his dad’s sales and service ski-doo company. Gordon married Joyce Roggeveen (LaClaire) in 1959 and later divorced in 1984. In 1985 he met Reta Fuchs and they were married in 1989. In 1972 his family moved to Alberta. Earlier in his life he raced snowmobiles with his sisters and brother and parents and in-laws in the small communities around Shellbrook. Racing was in the Robinson blood, he raced stock cars in Prince Albert in his younger days. When he was in Edmonton him and Joyce coached the Baldwin Ladies Fastball Team and then Grodon and Bert St. Onge coached the Nova Ladies Fastball Team in Edson. He belonged to the Edson snowmobile club where he groomed the trails. He also maintained the lawn at the ball diamonds. He enjoyed sitting on the shore and fishing with his daughter Valerie, he liked his Nascar, whether it he was at the race in Vegas or watching it on TV; he loved being crew chief on Calvin’s race car; he also enjoyed working on snowmobiles and quads in his shop, he still enjoyed riding sleds going on poker rallies and trail rides. Gordon enjoyed going camping too. Gordon and Reta travelled to different parts of Canada. He got into building his train set, his train set covers all of Canada and all of his basement; his train set covers from the mountains of British Columbia to the oceans of Newfoundland. He was employed with Trac Equipment in Edmonton for a number of years where he carried on working with snowmobiles and got his small engines certificate; he then moved to Edson where he was employed with TransCanada (Nova) in Edson for 17 years where he drove a semi truck which he called Big White, hauling heavy equipment around Alberta, he received the Trucker of the Month from CFCW. Gordon retired from TransCanada in 1996. Throughout his life he made numerous friends who will greatly miss him.
Gordon leaves to mourn his passing; his loving wife, Reta, and his four children; Valerie Robinson of Edmonton Alberta, Debbie McBean (Bob) of Sundre Alberta, Calvin (Cheryle) Robinson of Edson, Alberta, Scott (partner Pat) Robinson of Edmonton, Alberta. Gordon also leaves behind 6 grandchildren: Theresa Lynn Sadler, Nicole McGill, Kristopher Backwick, Matthew Robinson, Ami Robinson and Candace Robinson; 10 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren, his sisters, Donna (Craig) Davies of Medicine Hat Alberta, Joanne (Ken) Prosser of Winnipeg Manitoba, his sister-in law Barbara Robinson of Fort St. John, and numerous Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends.Gordon was predeceased by his parents Cora Mathilda and George Stewart Robinson, his brother Ronald Arthur Robinson and son in-law Albert (Bert) St. Onge.
There was a Graveside Service for family and friends at Shellbrook Cemetery on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. with Father Stephen Harnish as Officiant. Lunch and fellowship followed in the Shellbrook Senior’s.
