AGNEW, Thomas Dewdney
August 10, 1924 – January 21, 2013
It is with sadness, but thankfulness for the life of a man who touched so many with his integrity and compassion, that the family wish to announce the passing of Tom on January 21, 2013 in Langley, BC. Born and raised in Prince Albert, Sk., he joined the RCAF in 1942 and served as Navigator and then Air Gunner for 4 years. He attended the University of Saskatchewan and graduated in 1950 with his Law Degree. Tom practised law in Prince Albert and was appointed a Provincial Judge in 1966; returning to private practice in 1972. He was admitted into the BC Bar in 1985.
Tom was a dedicated member of St Alban’s Cathedral. He sang in the choir, served with the Corporation and was an appointed Lay Reader. He was a man of faith; he lived a life of faith.
Tom was a Free Mason, serving as Worshipful Master of Kinistino Lodge #1 Prince Albert and #63 and Shellbrook #171 Lodge. He also served as Secretary of Kinistino Lodge #1 for ten years.
On August 25, 1985 Tom married Joan L Forrester. They enjoyed travelling and spending time with friends and family near and far. There were many fond memories made with young and old alike on three different continents.
Tom was predeceased by his first wife Holly in 1975, his parents Arnold and Kathleen (Dewdney), his sisters Patricia Gonneville and Daphne Burnie and brother-in-law Bob Burnie.
He is survived by his wife Joan of Langley, BC and his three daughters: Colleen (Rick Receveur) of Canwood, SK, Cheryl Bartlett, of Prince Albert, SK and Tami (Darcy Schwan) of Saskatoon, SK; Daphne’s girls, his other three daughters: Jill (Bob Allen) Prince Albert, SK, Lori Burnie(Bob Watson) of Calgary, Alta and Shari (Barry Morhart) of Kaledon, BC.; grandchildren: Christina, Tracey, Diana, Amy, Michael, Danee, Ryan, Jay, Aurora, Magnus and Thor and eleven great-grandchildren. Tom is also survived by his brother Quent Agnew (Lynne) of Saskatoon and Joan’s daughters Susan (David Rowland) of New South Wales, Australia and Lesley (Michael Murray) of England and their children and grandchildren; also many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dad had determination and remained dedicated to his principals of honesty and justice throughout his life. He disliked any form of pretence and had an appreciation for the simple as well as the finer things in life; in his eyes they were often the same thing.
A Celebration of Life was held at St. George Anglican Church, Fort Langley, BC on February 16, 2013.
Internment to take place in Prince Albert at a later date.
