Reta Violet Mae Steele

Mrs. Reta Violet Mae Steele, beloved wife of the late Gordon Canavan Steele, passed away on March 29, 2013 at the age of 90 years at Pineview Terrace Home, Prince Albert, SK with her children by her side. Reta was born December 29, 1922 in Hawarden, SK and resided there until 1952 when she married Gordon. Reta and Gordon subsequently moved to Polwarth, SK, Shellbrook, SK and Mont Nebo, SK. In 1965, the couple made their final move to Prince Albert, SK. During this time Reta was a devoted wife and mother to the couple’s two children, Loretta and Colin. Reta was a diligent homemaker who took pride in the cleanliness of her home and the meals she provided for her family. Reta was a wonderful cook and an avid gardener. She enjoyed baking and canning and was proud to share her efforts with family and friends. Knitting and quilting were two of Reta’s favourite hobbies. Her knitted raw wool socks became legendary and were requested by family and friends each winter. Reta also enjoyed a rousing round of cards and shared this interest with her children and later her grandchildren. Reta will be sadly missed by her children: Loretta Isbister of Prince Albert, SK and Colin (Linda Nastiuk) Steele of Prince Albert, SK; her grandchildren: Joanne (Dwayne) Tournier of Prince Albert, SK Derek Isbister of Edam, SK, Alison Steele of Grande Prairie, AB and Kristie Steele of Sherwood Park, AB; her great-grandchildren: Caleigh and Aiden Tournier of Prince Albert, SK; her brother: Blake (Norma) Walker of St. Albert, AB and her good friends: her good friends: Bev and Darren Schock and their daughters , as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Reta was predeceased by her husband: Gordon Canavan Steele; her father: William Walker; her mother: Mable Walker; her brothers: Cecil Walker, Johnnie Walker and Russel Walker as well as her sisters-in-law: Dolores and Margaret. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 – 11:00 am, MacKenzie Chapel, 130 – 9th Street East, Prince Albert, SK with Rev. Nora Vedress officiating. Interment to follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of other tributes donations may be made to the Saskatchewan Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, Box 102, 103 Hospital Drive, Saskatoon, SK S7N 0W8 and would be greatly appreciated by the family.
