Dorothea “Dora” Cornelia Pegg
August 4, 1914 – June 29, 2013
A wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend left us in the early morning on Saturday, June 29, 2013. Dora was born in Aberdeen, SK, to Dutch immigrants George and Dorothea Dekkers. The family moved to Brada, SK, where she spent her youth. Her father, a railroad foreman, obtained an education pass which allowed Dora to ride the train back and forth to school in North Battleford. It was here she met Howard Pegg, who she married in 1938. Dora loved theatre and was active in North Battleford theatre as an actress in several productions. She learned shorthand and worked as a secretary at Bowman Bros. in North Battleford. After several moves between North Battleford and Prince Albert, the Pegg family moved to Prince Albert in1952, where Dora spent the remainder of her life. In 1967, Dora went to work in the Sears accounts department, retiring in 1978. Dora and Howard were avid bowlers and established lasting friendships through their league. Dora loved playing cribbage and was very excited to have scored a perfect hand. She was predeceased by her husband Howard in 1982; her parents and her only sibling, Harry Dekker and his wife Christine. She is survived by her sons Harry (Pat) and Jerry (Vivian) and Harry’s children Karen (Dave) Runciman, Karla (Chad) Cahoon and Krista Pegg (Matthew Cronkhite). She is also survived by six great grandchildren: Stephanie and Justin Runciman, Reid and Parker Cahoon and Kayley and Riley Clark as well as four much-loved nephews, David, Harry, Dana and Christopher and their families. Also surviving are her lifelong friends Ruby Sleath of Cutknife, SK, and Harold and Ivy Collins, who she called her adopted son and daughter and their children Cindy, Trina and Randy and their families. Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Pastor Mark Bergen officiating.
