MARY BEREZOWSKI
Mary was born the third child to Marian and Angeline Podbielski on a farm in Strong Pine, SK. She experienced many childhood memories of growing up on a farm, playing, going to school and, of course, the chores. One such memory was the brilliance of the Northern Lights on a cold winter night as seen from the top of a hay stack. Mary has always risen to challenges and as a child she persevered through a ruptured appendix that did not have the most favorable outcome at that time. After her marriage, she moved to Prince Albert where she raised three wonderful children, Lee, Ed and Ken. Not only was she a nurturing mother, but she also worked outside of the home. During this time she even managed to further her education to earn a certificate in Bookkeeping and new opportunities. As the children grew up and left to pursue their dreams, Mary started collecting antiques with a passion. She had a sharp eye that found many a precious item. It was at this time that she met her long term partner Wesley Robinson. Together they travelled across Western Canada seeing many points of interest and especially enjoyed those trips to visit family and the many new grandchildren. There were also many camping expeditions to Waskesiu, a family favorite. Mary’s next life challenge was a heart attack and once more, she persevered. Soon after, Mary and Wes moved to Discovery Place, a senior’s complex in Devon, Alberta, to be closer to her daughter Lee. Mary always sought to keep herself busy and with Lee they attended water painting classes that led to the production of many splendid pictures. Mary always loved to compose poetry, which she did with a passion all of her life. Many years later, Wes would lose a courageous battle to cancer. Eventually, Mary moved to Caleb Manor in Edmonton, where she continued to be actively involved, even leading their fitness classes. Mary was computer savvy whereby she managed to keep in touch with family and friends through email, Facebook and Skype. Ed can remember numerous video conferences with Mom and of the fun they had in trying to centre Mom’s video camera at the beginning of many of their talks. Also, if you happened to come into camera range, Mom would quickly bring you into the conversation. She especially enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, puzzles and bingo night, where she was often a winner. Her children were the world to her and she’d deeply cherished their visits and Mom would let you know how special they were to her. We all enjoyed the great big bear hugs and kisses before departing. Mom took great pride in being a grandmother to six grandchildren and was also blessed to be a great grandmother to nine great grandchildren. Mary is survived by her daughter Lee and her husband Henry of Devon, AB and their children, Carl (Simone) and their children, Ian, Evan, Sean and Ryan, Penticton, BC; Monica (Robert) Penner and their children, Daniel, Elizabeth and Catherine, Kelowna, BC; her son Ed and his wife Sharon of Saskatoon, SK and their children, Erin (Justin) Davies and their daughter Charlie, Calgary AB; Kyle (Nichole) and their daughter Elsa, Saskatoon, SK, and Shane (Taylor Olson), Calgary, AB; her son Ken and his daughter Marisa, Calgary, AB; her brother Leon (Vernice) Podbielski, Strong Pine, SK; as well as her nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
