BERYL MELISSA McKAY
Beryl Melissa McKay passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, in her home in Prince Albert in the loving arms of her daughter. She was born in Prince Albert on May 2, 1922 to Forrest and Bertha Fitzpatrick and grew up on a farm in the Deer Park area near MacDowall. She married John Gerald McKay on September 8, 1954, who predeceased her in 1995. Beryl was also predeceased by her parents, her older sister Ruby Wiese in 1989 and her twin sister Bernice Giles in 1965. She is survived by her brother, Robert Fitzpatrick (Margaret Shillington); her daughter Glenda McKay of Prince Albert; her son James McKay (Tannis Pratt) and granddaughter Lia of Saskatoon, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She attended business college in Prince Albert and worked as a stenographer for Domtar for 18 years before leaving the workforce to raise a family. Later on, she worked at the Prince Albert Housing Authority until retirement. She was very active in Wesley United Church along with Gerry for many years, singing in the choir and helping out at church functions. She was active with Meals on Wheels, the Prince Albert Historical Society, and was a member of the Kinettes and later K-40s. Though petite in size, her capacity to love was huge. With a good sense of humour and cheery smile, she had many friends and always made a lasting impression on everyone she met. The kitchen was her domain. She was an excellent cook and her baking was always in great demand. She loved nature, especially birds and flowers, and enjoyed going for drives in the country. Funeral service will be held at Wesley United Church, 65 – 11 Street East on Tuesday, August 6 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Tony Thompson officiating. Interment will take place in the Garden of Christus, Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made to a charity of the donorʼs choice and would be greatly appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Donald M. Moriarty, Funeral Director
