Mrs. Edith Starchuk was born on September 19, 1933 in Prince Albert, SK and grew up in Weirdale, SK. She passed away on October 1, 2013 at the age of 80 years, in Prince Albert, SK. In 1952, she married Tony and they started their life together on a farm in Strongpine, SK. It was there that they began their family with two daughters, Gail and Carol. They lived and worked on the farm until 1966 when mom’s asthma made it too difficult to live there. They moved to Prince Albert, SK and two weeks later their daughter Joanne was born. In January 1967, Mom began her 28 year career at the Holy Family Hospital in housekeeping. While working full time, she kept herself extremely busy with numerous gardens, canning, cooking, baking, sewing and every Saturday morning browsing Sears. She loved camping, fishing and berry picking. After retirement, she added “having to” go for coffee every day with her “Baba Gang”. Her grandchildren were everything to her and you could always find her making their favourite dish or doing anything else they asked. Baba was always at their beck and call. As mom’s health deteriorated, she lived and received wonderful care and attention at Pat’s Care Home for a short time, and starting in February 2011, at Nelson’s Care Home. Right up to her final hours, she still had her wit and sense of humor. Edith leaves to mourn her husband of 61 years: Tony; her daughters: Gail Fisher, Carol Kabaroff and Joanne Starchuk all of Prince Albert, SK; her grandchildren: Carri Fisher (Richie) of Edmonton, AB, Terran (Penny) Fisher of Edmonton, AB and Darcy Kabaroff of Blaine Lake, SK; her 2 great-grandchildren: Cody and Casidy Kabaroff; her sisters: Pauline Tkatchuk and Marie Slonski; her brothers: Mike (Iris) Prokopie, Wally (Doris) Prokopie and Orest (Judy) Prokopie; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. Edith was predeceased by 2 of her favorite sons-in-law: Harvey Kabaroff (1979) and Peter Fisher (2006) who lovingly referred to mom as “The Warden”; her parents: Frank & Mary Prokopie; her brother: Ihor Prokopie; her parents-in-law: Mike & Verna Starchuk; her brothers-in-law: John Tkatchuk, Frank Slonski, Joe Slonski, Pete Hryhorchuk, Mike Rutkowski and Steve & Anne Starchuk; her sister: Olga & Billy Balon; her nephew: Clarence Slonski; and her niece: Diane Delooze.
