1918 – 2013
Mrs. Verna Blanchard passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Victoria Hospital, Prince Albert at the age of 95 years. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 23 from St. Mark’s Roman Catholic Church with Father Janusz Bizewski officiating. Verna is survived by her loving family: her daughter Carol; her sons Ervin (Frances), Barry, Kevin (Judy), Daryl, Roy (Wanda); her 16 grandchildren Mark (Luciana) Blanchard, Curtis (Vicki) Blanchard, Cheryl Simpso, Cynthia (Sameer) Kumar, Charlene Fitzpatrick, Ronalda (Chris) Bender, Barry Jackson “B.J.” Blanchard, Danielle (Curtis) Schmitt, Brennen Blanchard, Aaron, Cole, Janice and Bailey Blanchard, Alyssa, Wade and Riley Blanchard; her 14 great-grandchildren Nicholas, Kaitlyn, Reanna Blanchard, Molly, Abby and Reece Blanchard, Joshua, John, Jordan & Cierra Simpso, Aydan, Ethan, Veda Kumar, MacKenzie Bender; her brothers Glen and Clare “Sonny” Short; her sisters-in-law Eileen and June Short. She was predeceased by her husband Anthony “Tony” Blanchard; her parents Byron and Annie Hanson; her parents-in-law William and Gertrude (nee Karlsten) Blanchard; her brother-in-law Walter; her brothers and sisters James (Lily), Chester (Leona), Ray, Lyle Short, Ida (Earl) Byrne; her great-grandchild Cody Simpso. Verna was born Thursday, February 21, 1918 to Byron and Annie Short. She attended school in Winton. Verna married Tony Blanchard, also from the Winton district where they started farming and continued mixed farming until 1966. In 1970, they moved to Birch Hills. Mom spent many hours gardening, knitting and tending to flowers throughout the yard. It is the family’s request that donations be made to the Birchview Nursing Home Auxiliary, or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Interment will take place in the Garden of Sermon on the Mount, Prince Albert Memorial Gardens.
