BREMNER, Hazel Mary
1926 – 2014
With sadness we announce the death of our much loved sister, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, auntie and friend. Hazel was born on October 11, 1926 in Haywards Heath, Sussex, England, the second of 4 children, to George William and Evelyn Mason. She grew up there and met her future husband Raymond Bremner during a wartime dance when she was 15 years old. They were married in 1943, when she was 17 years old. Following Raymond's demobilization, Hazel and her eldest son Richard came to Canada in 1946 and finally settled in Prince Albert. They had six other children and fostered several more. When the children were older Hazel became a teacher's aide and then a ward clerk at the Victoria Hospital Psychiatric Centre. She was a great knitter, and even won prizes at the PA Exhibition for her work. The grandchildren have cherished blankets, sweaters and hats made by grandma. Early in her marriage she sewed many clothes for herself and the girls. After retiring Hazel and Ray spent 4 happy years at the condo in Victoria, B.C., but, after missing their family, returned to P.A. After Ray's death in 1988 Hazel enjoyed visiting family and friends. Over the past few years after her diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease, she spent time as a client of Kopera and then Pineview Care Homes. She passed away peacefully on January 16, 2014 at the Victoria Hospital with family by her side. Hazel was predeceased by her husband Raymond; also her parents; brother John (Brenda) Mason; sister-in-law (Ruth and niece Jane Mason) all of England; father-in-law Jean and mother-in-law Marie Bremner; brothers-in-law Lawrence, Lionel and Greg Bremner and Albert Thibault, and sisters-in-law Victoria Thibault, Claire Rock, Rachel Bremner and Doug Bremner (godson). She is survived by her children; Richard (Joan), of Prince Albert, SK., Lorraine (Richard Eagle), of McPhee Lake, SK., Roxanne (Glen Roberts) of McPhee Lake, SK., Lyle (Charlene), of Prince Albert, SK., Lester (Janet), of Calgary, Alberta, Elaine (Vince Mappin) of Prince Albert, SK., and Elise (Elton Opsal) of Saskatoon, SK.; 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, and her 2 brothers in England, George (Mary) Mason and Maurice (Julie) Mason. Also brothers-in-law Roland (Alice) Bremner of Domremy, SK. and Philip (Jeanette) Bremner of Regina SK., and one sister-in-law Joan Bremner of Prince Albert, SK. This kind, gentle and lovely lady will be greatly missed.
