LENORA SHYNKARUK
On Saturday, February 1, 2014, Lenora Mary Shynkaruk (nee Winterhalt) passed away peacefully at Mont St. Joseph Special Care Home with her family at her side after 8 years of battling Alzheimer’s. Lenora was born on October 8, 1926 in Denzil, SK, the third of nine children to John and Katherine Winterhalt in Wilkie, SK. She farmed with her parents until she met the love of her life Isadore Shynkaruk. On April 22, 1946, Mom married Dad and they worked for farmers around the Senlac area until 1951. They then moved to Shell Lake, SK continuing to farm until 1954 when they moved to Prince Albert. Mom was a homemaker, loved baking, gardening, canning and loved playing cards. Mom enjoyed camping with Dad and her family, going fishing, travelling in Saskatchewan, Alberta and BC. Mom loved children so much she later had a receiving home for newborn children that were going out for adoption. She cared and loved for twenty-five babies. When the grandchildren were born they were the joy of her life. Mom always had cookies in her cookie jar and fresh homemade dill pickles. Her grandchildren called her “Grandma Cookie” because her cookie jar was never empty. Mom enjoyed having her family home for visits and always served her delicious homemade baking. Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 67 years Isadore; her daughter Linda (Joseph) Brassard; her daughter Madgalene (Victor) Gignac, grandchildren Jason Gignac, Lisa (Sean) McLaren, great-grandchildren Carter, Hayley; her son Denis (Sharon) Shynkaruk, grandsons Chris (Tammy) Shynkaruk, Dana (Natalie) Shynkaruk, great-grandchildren Kelsey, Madison, Paige, Layne, her son Ernie (Pam) Shynkaruk, grandchildren Geoffrey (Suzanne) Shynkaruk, Trista (Johnathon) Topping, her daughter Shelley (Mark) Tendeck, grandsons Brandon, Justin, her three sisters Monica (George) Ogston of Calgary, AB, Clementina Hoffert (Hank) of Cranbrook, BC and Katherine (Jack) Materi of Ituna, SK; her three brothers John (Cecilia) Winterhalt of Battleford, SK, Lawrence (Irene) Winterhalt of North Battleford, SK and Mike Winterhalt of Cranbrook, BC; her sister-in-law Agnes Winterholt of North Battleford, SK; members of Isadore’s family as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
