In Loving Memory of
Robert Jr. “Bobby” Mirasty
Robert Jr. “Bobby” Mirasty was born September 8, 1961 and died March 14, 2014 at the age of 52 in Prince Albert with his family by his bedside. Bobby experienced grace and mercy as he repented of his sins and he committed his life to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
We honour and remember the life of our son, father, brother, nephew, cousin, husband, companion, friend, and former coworker, the man we all knew as Bobby. Bobby is a member of the Little Red River Reserve (Lac La Ronge Indian Band) where he lived. Bobby grew up and was laid to rest at Sturgeon Lake First Nation.
Bobby was married to Sherry Bird. They had one son, Michael Bird. Michael and his spouse, Becky Turner are parents to Bobby’s three granddaughters: Brianna Turner (Me First), Taylor Turner (For Cigarettes) and Shanelle Turner (Haytah).
He later met Candace Daniels, who he lived with for 10 years. She became one of his best friends. In the last year of his life, he met Yvonne Turner. Yvonne’s time with Bobby was short but memorable.
Bobby attended Prince Albert Indian Residential School. He completed high school in Sturgeon Lake Central School in 1985. Bobby further continued his post-secondary education at Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT), in which he attained a 2-Year Business Administration Diploma. He attended the University of Saskatchewan; College of Education (ITEP) in 1997-1999.
Bobby returned to the Prince Albert Indian Student Education Centre (Prince Albert Grand Council), as a Child Care Worker in the 1990s. Bobby was dedicated to building up the youth in sports and music. He had a heart for those under his care at the Prince Albert Indian Student Centre (PAGC). As a role model, he took a holistic and respectful approach towards the youth that he worked with. He counseled the youth, and they trusted him. He would share a joke and laugh with the children and youth to bring healing into their lives. He offered his time and athletic abilities. His area of interest was baseball and volleyball.
His family and those he knew him remember enjoyable times. Bobby was community-minded. He visited with Elders and socialized with family and friends. He attended round dances and played bingo.
As a musician, Bobby played drums and guitar, and was also a singer and a songwriter with several band groups, such as Blue Fantasy, Jake & The Buzz Boys and Northern Lights Band. He jammed a lot with his brothers and friends in and around Prince Albert and in northern Saskatchewan.
Bobby was an artist, drawing in pencil the traditional artwork of animals and landscapes. He expressed his thoughts and feelings through art.
On behalf of Bobby’s family, we would like to thank those who showed their support and love during our difficult time. God Bless!
