JUDGE WILLIAM B. (Bill) TENNANT
It is with great sadness that the family of William Brian Tennant announces his passing in the early morning hours of April 4, 2014 following a brief illness. Bill was born September 22, 1926 in Brandon, MB. He became a member of the Law Society of Saskatchewan in 1951 and practiced Law in both Saskatchewan and Alberta. Bill married his childhood classmate Gertie Dubyk (Martin) in 1968 and moved to Prince Albert. He practiced Law in Prince Albert until 1978 when he was appointed Judge of the Provincial Court of Saskatchewan. Bill and Gert then moved to Kerrobert where Bill was the Circuit Court Judge sitting in the communities of Kerrobert, Kindersley, Unity, Rosetown, Eston, Wilkie and Macklin. He retired from the bench in 1991. Shortly after his retirement Bill and Gert moved back to Prince Albert to be closer to family. Bill was an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Prince Albert until health reasons prevented this at age 85. He served as both President of the local chapter as well as Lieutenant Governor of the Western Region. He was a passionate reader and his book collection was something to behold. As a result he was very knowledgeable on a variety of topics and loved to engage people in deep meaningful conversations. In his younger years Bill was an avid gardener and produced wonderful gardens and flowers. He often won awards for his prized gladiolas and had the nicest lawn in Kerrobert. Bill spent many hours in the greenhouse that he built. He loved his quiet times at the cabin at Candle Lake and later at his personal retreat at Round Lake. Bill is survived by his loving wife Gertrude, his children Diane Dahl (Aron) of Calgary, David Dubyk (Janine) of Prince Albert and Debra Maddigan (Dan) of Regina as well as grandchildren Michael Dubyk (Janet and great grand-daughter Kiera) of Red Deer, Shane Dubyk (Brienne) of Calgary, Sheena Dubyk of Prince Albert, Kristofer Maddigan (Carolyn) of Toronto, Shannon Howe (Josh) of Regina and Allison Maddigan (Matt) of New Zealand. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday April 10 at River Park Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Dennis Serfas officiating. Interment will take place in the Garden of Gethsemane, Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers tributes may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Saskatchewan. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the care of Donald M. Moriarty, Funeral Director.
