ALBERT LYSTER (Dutchy)
Al Lyster, husband, Papa, Opa passed away peacefully April 4th 2014 in St. Albert, AB. Al was born January 24, 1923 and raised in Delft Holland. He married Petronella Ysseling (Nel) on Sept 26, 1946. Two children, Cecilia and Ed were born in Holland. Together they immigrated to Canada by boat in 1953, landing at Pier 21 in Halifax. Learning a new language, Al worked hard, often 16 hrs a day as a plumber for Thorpe Bros across much of Saskatchewan. Two children, Maria and Craig were born in Prince Albert where the family lived for many years. Al enjoyed playing table tennis, holidaying in Spain with Nel and Dutch family visitors. He had a 10 mile daily walk around the city which he did to train for his yearly 40 Km, 4 day walk in Nijmegen, Holland. Grandchildren arrived and he would take them swimming and “cook” Kentucky Fried Chicken for supper. Al had pride in his lush, well weeded garden where many coffee breaks were enjoyed. Dutch Christmas and traditions were passed onto his children, grandchildren and now great grandchildren.
“Getting old is hard work” he would always say and then laugh. St. Albert was very welcoming to Al where he and Nel moved and enjoyed love and care from family there.
Left to enjoy the memories of Al’s life are his wife Nel Lyster, daughter Lia (Jim Homer) and their children Rob (Anita) and their children Ethan and Alyssa, Jennifer (Dave Polvere) and their children Ryan and Amy; Son, Ed (Karen) and their children Kish, (Adrienne) and their children Teyo and Talia and Trevor (Alisha) and their children Connor and Colton; Daughter Maria (Jim Ackney,) and their children Patricia (Lester Lim) and their children Benjamin and Noah; David (Monica) and their children Marshall, Nathan, Emmett and Kimberly (Micheal Mausolf). Son Craig (Cyndy). In Holland Al is survived by his sister Bep.
John 11:25 Jesus said to her “I am the resurrection and life: he who believes in Me will live even if he dies. Rest till we meet again Al, Papa, Opa.
