Doug Chaharyn, late of Prince Albert, SK, passed away on May 31, 2014 in Nipawin, SK at the age of 67 years. Doug attended school at St. Paul’s, St. Anne’s and St. Mary’s College in Prince Albert then went on to university and obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon and a Professional “A” teaching certificate from the University of Saskatchewan, Regina. He was good at sports when he was younger, served as treasurer of his high school student council and was president of the Prince Albert Young Progressive Conservative Party in 1965, when Rt. Hon. John G. Diefenbaker was still leader of the Federal Progressive Conservative Party. He taught at Weekes High School, Weekes, SK for one year, at Assumption Roman Catholic Separate School, Oyen, AB for two years, and at Assiniboia Junior High School, Assiniboia, SK for half a year and at Highland View Hutterite Colony near Hughendun, AB for half a year. He also worked as an income tax consultant for seven years. He also worked as a labourer, survey interviewer and a janitor and a group activity aide when younger and also had a Star Weekly magazine route. He was also a member at large representing the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon to the Saskatchewan Student’s Federation in 1968. A religious man who practiced his faith, Doug fought a long courageous battle with two types of Cancer. He is survived by his brothers and sisters: Kim, Ken, Janice, Joyce and Rick (Val); his sister-in-law Connie, his uncle Bob Cummings, as well as numerous nephews, great-nephews and nieces. Doug was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Noreen, his brothers Dave and Randy, his sister Myrna, his grandparents Mary and Joseph Chaharyn, and Charles and Catherine Cummings. In lieu of other tributes donations may be made to The Canadian Cancer Society, 54 11th St E, Prince Albert, SK, S6V 0Z9. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 – 1:00 pm, MacKenzie Chapel, 130 9th St. E, Prince Albert, SK. Interment to follow at South Hill Cemetery, Prince Albert, SK.
