André Joseph Roy
Strong, silent, loyal, honest & compassionate, these are all adjectives to describe André Roy. André was born April 4, 1926 to Hudor and Florida (Poulin) Roy in Domremy. He was the eighth of ten children. He is survived by his loving wife, Emilienne (nee Blanchard), his children: Rita (Lucien) Tessier of Eston, SK., Albert (Peggy) of Spruce Home, SK., Laurence (Judy) of Melfort, SK., Maurice (Lori) of Prince Albert, SK., Léo (Della) of Saskatoon, SK. and Raymond (Michelle) of Prince Albert, SK.;18 grandchildren & 23 great grandchildren and his brother Denis of Domremy, SK. André was a devout Catholic. He and mom spent hours reciting the rosary. Dad went to Hoey School until grade 11 after which he went to work on the farm. Dad met mom in 1944 at the St. Laurent Shrine and they were married on July 6, 1948 in Duck Lake. In 1947, André purchased the quarter across the road from the original family farm. There were a few winters when dad went to work in the bush to support the family while mom stayed home to keep the livestock, look after the children and keep the home fires burning. In 1948, André started working with his brother Henry for the St. Louis rural phone company. Later, in1961, he took over the lineman’s job. There wasn’t anyone as well known, recognized or trusted in the district as the phone man André Roy. In 1975, André left the phone company and went on to other things including building quonsets, being a handyman and helping friends, family and relatives doing odd jobs or major projects to supplement his income and help out. He and mom loved to travel and toured North America extensively from Alaska to Nova Scotia even venturing to Europe together. They would go traveling and camping with family pursuing André passion for fishing. In 1989, they sold the family farm and in 2006 a move to Prince Albert was the next step then finally in November of 2011, Spruce Home was the final destination. Summers were spent sitting in the gazebo, floating in the pool and mowing the 3 acres of grass. July was always a busy time with family and friends coming out to visit, camp and watch the fireworks. Times and life were good as the days blended one into the other with church, fall suppers, casino nights, card games, playing dominoes, sharing meals, spending time with friends and watching old John Wayne movies. In April of 2014, dad was admitted to the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert and passed away in the morning of June 6, 2014. He leaves behind a legacy that many would envy and will be sorely missed by many family, relatives and friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Rashid and all the nursing staff for the excellent care André received. The Prayer Service will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. Both Services will be held at the St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church in Domremy and led by the Rev. Colin Roy and the Rev. Fr. Michael Fahlman. Interment will follow in the St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Cemetery. Donations in memory of André may be directed to the St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Marc Blondeau of Kushneryk Funeral Service, Wakaw, SK. 306-233-4403.
