Théophane Ferré

FERRÉ, Théophane – February 26, 1925 – July 10, 2014 Théophane Denis Ferré passed away peacefully at age 89. He was born in St. Brieux, Saskatchewan, the seventh of twelve children to Jean and Maria (née Larmet) Ferré. He resided on the family farm and attended Tilly School until grade seven after which he completed his secondary education at the Collège Mathieu de Gravelbourg. He married Olive Perault in 1950 and together they had five children and farmed in the St. Brieux area. In addition to farming,Théophane enjoyed fishing, sports and traveling. He shared these interests with his wife and children, particularly the memorable fishing trips to Northern Saskatchewan. He instilled in his children and grandchildren, the love of our French language and culture. He participated in many provincial and local organizations for the promotion of our heritage, including L'ACFC, and Radio Canada and le Comité culturel. Théophane was committed to his community and parish. He was actively involved in several committees and organizations in the St. Brieux area. These included Knights of Columbus, the Parish Council, 19 years as a board member for the Humboldt School Division, as well as a member of the founding committee of the Chateau Providence. He was a devoted husband and an exemplary father, grand-father and great-grandfather. His kindness, patience, and generosity were qualities that were appreciated by all. He was very genuine, the person people met and enjoyed in public was the same at home. Théophane is survived by his loving wife, Olive (née Perault), his sons Alain (Wilna), Denis (Danièle), Bernard (Fernande), his daughters Anne (Paul) and Lorraine (Jerry), his 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, his sister, Sr. Élisabeth (Daughters of Providence), his sister-in-law, Marguerite Ferré (Similien) and fourteen nieces, nephews and their families. Théophane was predeceased by his parents, Jean Ferré and Maria Larmet, whose families immigrated to Saskatchewan from Brittany, France in 1904 and 1905. He was also predeceased by brothers and sisters-in-law, Marcel (Eugénie Toullelan) and Louis (Virginie Toullelan), by his sisters, Sr. Marie (Presentation of Mary), Thérèse, Jeanne, and Marthe (in infancy), by her brothers Jean, Similien, Antoine and Bernard and by his niece Estelle Lepage (née Ferré) and infant twin nephews, Paul and Gilbert Ferré. A celebration of Théophane's life took place in his home town of St. Brieux, Saskatchewan followed by interment in the parish cemetery. The Vigil of Prayer was held Sunday July 13, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, July 14, 2014 at 10:30 in the St. Brieux Roman Catholic Church. The family expresses heartfelt appreciation to all staff members of Château Providence in St. Brieux who provided a caring environment for Théophane in his final year. The family also appreciated the quality medical care provided by hospital staff during his visits to the Melfort Hospital.
